Nutrition Advisory Council Website

Nutrition Advisory Councils (NAC) serve as a link between students, school foodservice personnel, administrators and the community.  Not only is NAC a vehicle to spread the word about the important role nutrition plays in students lives, but it provides important feedback from students on what they like-or dont like-about their school foodservice program.  By involving students with NAC you will reinforce the idea that school nutrition programs are for them.

This program encourages enthusiastic students to come up with fresh and imaginative ideas to create change at their school!!

Poster Content Winner 2018-19

Diana Espinoza from Macy Intermediate was the 1st Place Winner in the NAC Poster Contest for the 2018-19 school year.

NAC of the Year 2017-18

An awesome job was done by Rosa Medina and her 2nd grade NAC group at La Merced Elementary for the school year 2017-18.  The year started out with a cafeteria tour with her well-behaved and very inquisitive students.  The class then participated in designing posters for the California School Nutrition Association contest, Eating Colors of the Rainbow, followed by the Fat Lesson, the My Plate lesson, the Label Reading lesson, and the Sugar Lesson.

Assisted by Polly Huang (Nutrition Supervisor) and Pat Thayer (NAC Coordinator) the students then prepared a healthy snack, using all five food groups on an whole wheat English muffin.  Students enjoyed being able to do it for themselves and eating what they had made.

Thanks for promoting student wellness and nutrition at LME!
