WELCOME FROM MS. CALVO

Welcome to our Webpage! We invite you to share in our Iditarod experience! We are delighted to provide you some information and details of our adventure in the Iditarod 2004 race. Here are some of the things you can view. You will see musher requirements; you can see our PowerPoint presentations; our team musher, which is Martin Buser; and our reflections. See the results of the mushers we tracked, the “ purse”; visit our picture gallery, see us in action and more!

We have learned many new things. We did activities in all subject areas using Iditarod. We speculated about what were the causes of the position line- up of the mushers. In regards of technology skills, we have learned how to get pictures from the Internet; how to use Powerpoint ; how to do intelligent searches using Google; some of us learned how to use digital cameras and camcorders; how to make iMovie4; and how to create a web page using Macromedia Fireworks and Dreamweaver.

This project is a colloborative project that would not have been possible without the support from the district's office's Department of Educational Technology. We thank them for their wonderful support and encouragement of the students. We don't have enough computers in our classroom so we traveled once a week to the district's computer lab to access technology. I drove my students using the district's van. Our Iditarod Multimedia Mania Team worked hard, even during their vacation, to finish their projects. I am very proud of them. They inspire me to be more creative and dedicated.

Sincerely,

Ms. Calvo (Cesar E. Chavez Elementary School, Teacher - Highly Gifted Program)

MESSAGE FROM MRS. WALKER

Congratulations to Ms. Calvo's highly gifted class, especially the Iditarod team, for completing this task. We at the Department of Educational Technology are very pleased to help them with this project. Ms. Calvo is one of our talented LAMDA teachers. LAMDA (Learning and Mentoring in a Digital Age) is our comprehensive technology integration staff development program. This project is one of the model lesson plans we are creating for the district.

This opening page was created by Ms. Calvo and myself. The rest of the pages were created by Brenda P., a 4th grade student from Cesar Chavez Elementary School, Montebello Unified School District, using a standardized locked template of the district. She created the graphics, hyperlinks, and propagated the content for this site. For more information on the technical aspects in creating this page, please visit our "Picture and Video Gallery." Check out Brenda's video as she explains step by step how she used Macromedia to create web pages and edit the pictures. The rest of the Iditarod team contributed various content for the entire Iditarod web page. All of the work was done during school time in Ms. Calvo's classroom and the district's computer lab.

We are very proud of Ms. Calvo and her students. Ms. Calvo demonstrated that through appropriate use of technology, learning can happen in a more engaged and meaningful manner that fosters higher order critical thinking skills. I am sure that these students will remember this experience for years to come.

Thank you for visiting this web site and we look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Grace Walker, Director of Educational Technology

This website is truly a work of art. The hard work and dedication the students at Cesar Chavez Elementary put into this project is obvious in every linked page. This website has great visuals and every page has solid information. The students and staff involved truly are to be commended for a job well done on this project. Special thanks to Ms. Calvo, Highly Gifted Class Teacher for the district, for all her hard work to complete this project. Thank you also for sharing your work with other LAMDA teachers. Congratulations to all!

Message from our Principal, Mr. Gallegos:

I want to congratulate our wonderful students at CCE and their teacher Ms. Calvo for the great job that you have done. I am very proud of all of you and all of your hard work during this multimedia project. Your class is an excellent example to the rest of our students in our school. Your commitment and dedication to this project is commendable. We certainly appreciate the fine job that you have done and we know that this is just the beginning of great things to come. Congratulations once again. ¡Si Se Puede!

Message from our Assistant Principal, Dr. D'Amico:

Thank you for inviting me to visit the website. I enjoyed talking to the students about this high tech project the few times I had the opportunity to help transport them to the District Computer Lab. I really liked the way they provided hot links to other sites on the Web, the way they creatively cut and pasted photos, maps, charts, and tables, and the knowledge they gained about climates and geography, and students. We are proud of you! Bravo!!!!
