Retiree Not Elibible For District Paid Benefits Less than 5 Years

Meet with a PERS counselor to determine eligibility and if less than 5 years with PERS you will not be able to have health benefits with CalPERS as a retiree.

Submit your letter of retirement to Human Resources with as much notice as possible.

Retiree Not Eligible for District Paid Benefits - An employee who retires and has less than 5 years District service and with CalPERS Retirement System is eligible for 18 months COBRA, unless Medicare eligible.  With Medicare, you would not apply for COBRA.

You may also continue dental and vision plans into retirement.  Dental can continue through COBRA Act for eighteen (18) months.  Current premiums are as follows: 
$ 62.04/single |  $124.09/2party |  $146.93/family

Vision premium is payable monthly and can continue as long you are current with the monthly premium.  Rates are as follows:
Classified:  Regular $ 14.40/single |  $ 28.18/2pty |  $ 38.92/family
AMSA: $ 13.86/single |   $ 27.07/2pty  | $37.86/family

Dental and vision premiums are payable directly to Montebello Unified School District.  ALL premiums due the 1st of each month to avoid cancellation.

To continue Life and/or Long Term Care directly through the carrier, please contact the Benefits Department extensions 2302 or 2338.  Must be continuous within thirty (30) days of retirement.
