Supplemental Educational Services (SES)

Supplemental Educational Services (SES) are tutoring or other supplemental academic enrichment activities beyond the regular school day. The law requires SES to be of high quality, research-based, and designed to improve the academic achievement of participating students. Students are eligible for these services if they are enrolled in any of the state's 5,080 Title I schools, not meeting State Board of Education content standards in reading and math, and from low-income families.

The option of school choice must be made available to all students the second year a school is identified for school improvement and all subsequent years thereafter, until the school has made adequate yearly progress for two consecutive years.

A Provider offering Supplemental Educational Services must be state-approved. A list of schools that qualify for SES will be available in August after the CST results have been posted by CDE.
