Edgar Cisneros

Edgar CisnerosEdgar Cisneros is a proud product of Montebello Unified schools now serving in his second term as Board Member.

As a Board Member of the third-largest school district in Los Angeles County, Edgar is charged with establishing educational policy and ensuring fiscal responsibility within Montebello Unified, which serves close to 29,000 Transitional-Kindergarten through 12th grade students at 28 schools.

Edgar’s chief guiding principle is ensuring precious taxpayer resources are maximized to make the greatest impact on students.  During Edgar’s term as Board President, he spearheaded the passage of a project labor agreement to ensure local hiring on large District projects, the inclusion of ethnic studies as a graduation requirement and the expansion of Transitional Kindergarten to all 17 MUSD elementary schools. Edgar has also been successful in personally securing $168,000 worth of grants for programs to benefit Montebello Unified students.

With a mission to ensure all students graduate prepared to enter higher education and competitive careers, Edgar is most proud that Montebello Unified is graduating a greater percentage of its students than ever.

During his service on the board, the District has enjoyed a healthy budget while having no employee layoffs – a great feat in a district with a $278 million dollar operating budget and over 3,500 dedicated employees.  Under his leadership, Montebello Unified’s most recent independent financial audit, validated by the Los Angeles County Office of Education, received the highest possible rating.

As the first in his family to graduate from high school and college, Edgar values the high-quality education that our public school system provides and recognizes the importance of closing the achievement gap through meaningful learning opportunities. Edgar works tirelessly to make certain that students have access to nutritious meals, robust after-school programs, reliable school transportation and other needed resources so that they have every opportunity to succeed beyond MUSD’s classrooms.

Outside of MUSD, Edgar also supports local youth athletic and academic programs by volunteering as a coach for the Montebello Baseball Association.  For the last three years, he has also served as a mentor for the District’s “College Bound Today” program, which has a solid track record of improving student access to higher education.Edgar attended Greenwood Elementary, Montebello Intermediate and Montebello High School prior to graduating from California State University, Long Beach.  Professionally, he currently serves as a chief executive in charge of a multi-million dollar operating budget and 230 employees.

Edgar and his wife Jessica, a school teacher, are the proud of parents of Vicente and Valentina who attend MUSD schools.
