Our Active Shooter drill with the team from High Profile Knowledge has been scheduled for 4/24 at 10:35 a.m. This drill will be very similar to our previous lockdown drills. A presentation was shared with staff earlier this year regarding an on-campus drill, and security and safety expectations. A presentation designed for students will be reviewed in the days leading up to the drill.

Here is a note from Principal Jennifer Martinez regarding the drill:

Dear Bella Vista Families,

The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our top priority. As part of our ongoing efforts to ensure preparedness, we will be conducting a school-wide Active Shooter Drill, which we will refer to as a “Safety Run” to help keep the experience calm and supportive for students. The drill is scheduled for Friday, April 24, 2026 at 10:35 AM and will last approximately 15-20 minutes. To help students feel informed and prepared, we will review age-appropriate procedures and expectations in the event of an emergency.

What to expect during the Safety Run:
● A lockdown bell will signal the start of the drill.
● Students who are already in a classroom or safe location such as the library, cafeteria or office will remain in that space. They will follow lockdown procedures including turning off the lights, sitting quietly and staying away from windows.
● Students who may be outside will quickly move to the nearest classroom or office, where they will be supervised by a staff member during the lockdown.
● Students who are on the playground at the time will be escorted to the nearest safe classroom or exit gate, but will NOT exit the campus.
● MUSD Staff and a MUSD consultant will be on-site to assist with the coordination of the drill.
● Once classrooms are secured, the consultant will check all doors to ensure proper lockdown procedures are followed.
● After verification, an “all clear” bell and announcement will signal the end of the drill. We understand that drills like this can sometimes raise concerns. To support our students, the district will be providing additional school and family wellness therapist support for any students who would like to speak with someone following the drill. Important Reminder:
● The school office will be closed from 10:15 AM to 11:15 AM on the day of the drill.
● Students will not be permitted to arrive or be dismissed during this time.

We appreciate your partnership in helping maintain a safe and prepared school environment. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,
Jennifer Martinez
Principal
