Ms. Jennifer Gutierrez has been a lifelong resident of the City of Montebello, California. A proud product of public education, Ms. Gutierrez attended La Merced Elementary, La Merced Intermediate, and Montebello High School, all schools within the Montebello Unified School District. Ms. Gutierrez is the youngest of three siblings and a first-generation college graduate.  Having earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of California, Irvine (UCI) and her Master’s degree in School Counseling from the University of Southern California (USC).

Public service and leadership have always been important to Ms. Gutierrez. After losing her mother to cancer at the young age of four, and being raised by a single father, Ms. Gutierrez found comfort in family and public service. Ms. Gutierrez began her advocacy and civic engagement at an early age. Beginning with becoming ASB president at Montebello High School, and volunteering at numerous community events such as beautification days at local parks and schools. Additionally, Ms. Gutierrez would also volunteer at local food, toy, and backpack distribution events. This activism and involvement lead Ms. Gutierrez to become a co-founder of a Youth Leadership Club in Montebello hoping to inspire and engage youth to become civically active and give back to their communities.

It was this dedication and passion that helped Ms. Gutierrez get elected to the Montebello Unified School District Board of Education. Ms. Gutierrez is one of the youngest Latina members to be elected to the school board.

Currently, Ms. Gutierrez is a School Counselor for Los Angeles Unified School District where she helps students with academic, social/emotional, college, and career readiness.
